Here we go then. Forget the stupid 'couldn't give a toss about olympics' thread, this is the one to talk about anything to do with London 2012. Opening ceremony in an hours time. Lets av it!

One of my best memories from Olympics is from Los Angeles 1984 when Greg Louganis (diver) won gold. I hadn't followed the sports before but it got a lot of coverage and we had a good commentator. I was able to learn a lot about the finesse of diving and when it came the time to final I was hooked. Louganis made a legendary effort on his last dive and you could sense the atmosphere at home on your couch. I'm still glad that I saw the last dive live. Unforgettable.

Talking about Diving - did anyone see the programme the other night about our diver Tom Daley? He's out to do his best for his dad who sadly recently passed away from unoperable brain tumours. His dad was always his biggest fan who tried to hang on to see him compete next week. :(

I hope he can finish with a medal, a tall order though as he's up against the awesome divers from China.

I remember that quite well. When he went to the water it felt like minutes before he came up and you could see he was more or less ok.

I think it's really clever and the rings were inspired. It's all gone a bit Tim Burton at the moment, though!

In honour of Baron de Coubertin perhaps (founder of modern olympics)?

Beijing's opening ceremony cost $300m, and was a fraction as good as this.
