Watching the rugby, what do you think of the national anthems.
France, Ireland, Italy & Scotland, all have fast catchy tunes.
England & Wales have slower anthems.
The Welsh anthem, sends a shiver through me, and brings a tear to my eye, and a huge lump in my throat.
Does the English anthem do that for you.
Or do you think there should be another anthem for sporting events.
It does sound a bit embarrasing hearing GSTQ at football matches.
Your opinions.

'Imaginary man in the sky save the the most out dated system in the world' - doesnt do a lot for me.

A song about the two longest running cons in the world, the royal family and religion.

National anthem used to be great, but it's like an old song now so it doesn't feel the same. Although I've never been in a football crowd for example, singing with fellow English people.

Italians have a good one, I think it's them or the french...could be both.

The English national anthem is not even one of the worst songs in the world, it's the one of the worst things in the world. The tune's dire and the content of the lyrics makes me want to puke. I refuse to sing it. Ever.

England should have "Jerusalem" as their anthem. Forget God save the Queen. That's just too slow and rubbish anyroad. Mind you, it does say in the 4th verse ......and the rebellious Scots to crush.... that can't be wrong can it?? ;)

This is weird. I was just thinking about this today. The one thibg no one has mentioned is that its not even the English national anthem. England doesn't have a national anthem. The Scots have a unique one, as do the welsh, but the English have to make do with the BRITISH national anthem. She's not just our queen, she's also the queen of all Britain and the commonwealth. Scots and Welsh (and northern Island) get thir own parliaments. We don't, the British parliament is based in London, makes sense, its the biggest city in Britain, but there is no English parliament. I'm not edl or anything, by the way, can't stand them, and I genuinely love Britain and England's diversity, I also like the idea of being British. But I also love being English, and it pisses me off that we're not allowed anything of our own.

And now I've had my rant, my vote is for Jerusalem out of songs that currently exist. But I still don't think that's ideal. It says that the best thing about being English is that Jesus may have come here once, and we have some quite nice scenery. I think we need a new one writing, something that invokes old school victories like rurkes drift, agincourt and the battle of Britain. Something that says 'if those boys can do that, then you 11 overpaid pansies can get out there and win this bloody game of football / rugby / whatever else you might need some inspiration to achieve.'

And breathe.

Been to England away matches and stood there singing the national anthem with a few thousand fellow English fans and it makes your hairs stand on end. Understand if people don't find it inspiring though.

America's national anthem stirs my soul, just the words painting the picture of how the defenders of Ft. McHenry curbstomped and teabagged a bunch of posers trying to take Baltimore. Sometimes I wish we still knew who those punk fools were that thought the defenders of Ft. McHenry were noobs or something. ;)

Like it or loathe it, it's here to stay and it's still one of the most recognised anthems on the planet.

God save her majesty and our anthem.
